3 Do you have good dream recall?

If you have good dream recall.....
If you do have good or some dream recall, write as they come to you. Short hand helps if many
sequences are clear, since once you write a snippet you can use that as the doorway to the rest
of that memory when you come back to fill in that part. Should you leave space for it at that
same spot? You can, though you won’t know how much space to leave, so I prefer to link
paragraphs with numbers or symbols such as dots, stars, or squiggles. Have fun with this…. use colors. Perfect for painters.

What details to capture
I write in the sequence in which the memories return to me, which is usually the last sequence,
and then I work my way back. Focus on the basic backdrop of the sequence; the
physical/visual landscape. Then try answering questions such as “What’s the essential scenario?” “How do I feel?” and “Who else is there?” There’s much more to this, but it should get you started.

Alternative to writing in pen
Maybe you’d prefer to sketch or draw your dream scenes? Beautiful. If you choose this, I
suggest adding pen notations; key words or sentences to explain a bit about the scenes. Super
helpful!

Lastly, Date your entries.
I tend to do this at the end of each entry, but either way works. This is helpful for tracking your
dreaming in relation to any major life experiences, plus lunar, solar and astrological/astronomical
correlations that you follow. And on that thought, making comments in your journal regarding
life events you consider notable becomes an amazing tool for noticing how your dreaming and
your waking life are mutually reflective.

Exercise for breaking through creative blocks
So, you’re sitting or standing in front of your canvas or clay or what have you, tools are ready,
the mood is set and you’ve no inspiration at all. Try taking a few slow deep breaths, drop your
shoulders, close your eyes, and imagine emptying yourself…your mind, your thoughts, your
heart, everything within you, an allow them to flow out of you like a waterfall. Once you feel
relatively empty, imagine light coming in from above you, filling you till your glowing. Then say,
”thank you, universe, for providing me with the inspiration and guidance for this project.” Then
wait and listen, with your attention focused on ‘relaxed receiving’, as much as possible. This is
my very abbreviated version of an exercise I’ve learned along the path of my recent spiritual
studies and I find incredibly effective.

Follow these few simple steps, and with some consistency, your dreaming will once again
become your best friend and ally, fertile and abundant with creativity, showing you the way.

Good luck and evolutionary dreaming to you!
